Election contrast

Republicans are set to release a second round of tax cut proposals heading into the November elections.  Actually, it’s not so much a second round as it is taking the individual tax cuts and making them permanent.  Republicans estimate it would add another 1.5 million jobs to an already pumping job market.  That would cause wages to continue their rapid growth as well as employers have to offer more pay and benefits to keep good help.  Passage isn’t guaranteed as deficit questions remain.

GOP to propose making tax cuts permanent

Meanwhile, the party of tax and spend is at it again.  Democrats have promised to repeal the Trump tax cuts and double national spending to achieve their goals of Medicare for all, free tuition, and guaranteed employment.  They have hinted at massive new taxes as well to try to cut into their proposed $4 trillion annual deficit.  They would in fact need to double taxes on every person and business to avoid the country going bankrupt by the end of Trump’s second term.

But there’s plenty of opportunity for Democrats to tax things.  In fact, they can hide a lot of taxes behind what they believe are good causes.  California is getting ready to break their promise with the beverage industry by raising billions of dollars in new soda taxes.  The ballot measure is expected to show up in 2020.  Soda taxes, gasoline taxes, cigarette taxes, marijuana taxes, the Democrats have a lot of options when it comes to taxing sin.  But they also want to tax the good stuff.  Ministry giving and clergy housing is certainly a target of pro-tax liberals as well.  They supported tariffs, until Trump did it.

Democrats look for things to tax, target soda in California

Former President Obama said in his speech last week that Republicans are having a hard time “calling Nazis bad”.  We don’t.  Nazis, along with mass murdering minority populations, supported things like universal healthcare, guaranteed employment, regulations on businesses to prevent greed and profits, and confiscation and redistribution of wealth.  They also liked to divide people based on race and use those divisions to control the masses.  Nazis were Socialists.  So Conservatives and Libertarians find it easy to say Nazis are bad.

What I want to know is how hard is it for Obama to say Socialists are bad?  Communism, which is another form of Socialism, has resulted in 100 million dead over the last century.  Put that up against Hitler’s murder of 6 million Jews.  Socialism, in the form of Communism, killed at the same rate as Hitler.  But the Left struggles to say Socialism is bad.  They, like today’s Neo-Nazis, simply maintain that it hasn’t worked because it hasn’t been tried right.  In fact, today’s Neo-Nazis are out there rallying and screaming and acting generally like fools, but with no masks and no violence.  Antifa Anarcho-Communists meanwhile are donning masks, attacking cops, and beating anyone who comes near them who might have an opposing viewpoint.

Nazis are bad.  Communists are bad.  Socialists are bad.  It’s easy to say.  How about you, Mr. Obama?  Can you say it?

Communists are bad, they killed more than 10 times as many as Hitler’s Nazis.

8/15/18: What’s going on in Turkey

Tensions have continued to rise between the US and Turkey.  At the center of the dispute is a US pastor who was arrested as part of retaliation for a failed coup in Turkey in 2016.  Andrew Brunson is being held under house arrest and charged with espionage, but the US denies all charges.  To get Brunson back, Trump has used tariffs as more than just economic retaliation for another country’s tariffs, but is now using them for diplomatic pressure as well.  Turkey’s court of appeals refused to release Brunson this week.

Trump hits Turkey with tariffs, Turkey responds in kind over detained pastor

In an update to a story we brought you a few days ago, there are now over 200 papers in the US set to write anti-Trump editorials to supposedly prove that they are unbiased and don’t deserve to ever be called out for fake news.  Media outlets led by CNN’s cry baby Jim Acosta and the Boston Globe have feared that the “fake news” label on news that isn’t true is going to cause violence against the media.

Meanwhile, as we reported on our Facebook page yesterday, CNN’s Chris Cuomo made a feeble attempt to ask Antifa to cool it when it comes to actually physically assaulting members of the media.  Cuomo’s rambling charge against Antifa seemed to suggest that they were ok to be violent as long as it was against bigots, but that they really ought to leave the press and the cops alone.  He ignored their attacks on non-white supremacist Trump supporters who happened to be in the area and were assaulted.

200+ Media outlets set to attack Trump to show they aren’t biased

Twitter has joined the ranks of social media platforms in banning Alex Jones, but only for a short period of time after he violated one of their rules with a video he linked to.  Twitter had stated that they would not ban him unless he violated one of their rules.  The current restriction is temporary.  Jones has gotten a lot of mileage out of the bans on other social media platforms.  Alex Jones’ site, Infowars, tends to be a cesspool of conspiracy theory and Jones’ lawyer admitted in a recent court battle that he is “playing a character” in his role as a media personality.

At Political Brief, we don’t follow Alex Jones.  We support his right to free speech and expression, but we also support the right of private businesses to make the economic decision to discriminate when it comes to hosting private individuals.  Consumers will need to decide for themselves if blocking Alex Jones is enough to get them to leave those social media platforms.  It also is a good caution to consumers to remember that political commentators have an agenda.  Be sure to double check sources and treat any political story with skepticism, whether it’s Alex Jones or Jim Acosta.  Also, know that Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and other platforms are privately run and push content to you.  The best way to navigate politics online is to do your research and find people you trust.

8/14/18:The missing tape

CBS is leading off today with a new recording from Omarosa from 2016 in which Omarosa insists to other campaign officials that Trump used the N word while filming the Apprentice.  Omarosa has maintained this claim and that there is a recording, although the existence of the recording remains unverified.  In the recorded phonecall with Lynne Patton and Katrina Pierson, Patton says she asked Trump if he had used the word and he said no.  Someone believed by CBS to be Pierson then says “no, he said it”, although that could be Omarosa talking.  Pierson has denied that they knew about this tape or were trying to spin it.

Omarosa insists that she heard this supposed recording of Trump using the N word, but has not given any details about the specific context.  Producer Mark Burnett apparently called Trump to reassure him no such tape exists.  Omarosa was fired for multiple ethics violations and potentially violated the law by illegally taping White House meetings.

Omarosa cites phantom recording of Trump, but has no evidence

Al Gore is out there now resetting the Global Warming apocalypse timeframe.  Gore said Trump hasn’t been as bad as he thought, and with a new President we could be back on track to save the planet.  Gore has previously cited Global Warming studies to predict that the polar ice caps would be melted and gone by 2014.  Gore also predicted 2016 would be the point of no return for hoping to stop Global Warming.  Apparently, having survived two previous near apocalypses, if only we can get a new President we’ll be OK.  I wonder who he has in mind?

Al Gore discovers the Global Warming apocalypse hasn’t happened yet

Radical Democrat protesters are being investigated by the Secret Service after calling for violence against the President.  The Antifa group, made up of Democrats, Democratic Socialists, and Communists, attacked Trump supporters, beat cops, and tangled with Secret Service in violent demonstrations over the weekend.  Some protesters were asked on camera what they would do if they saw Trump.  Their suggestions ranged from unhinged violence to sodomy and murder.  It is a felony to threaten to harm or kill the President.  The protesters also called on violence towards “fascists”, but their definition is broad and includes pretty much anyone who disagrees with them.

We believe that if Trump has a duty to denounce white supremacist groups over and over, then Democrat leaders have a duty to denounce Antifa as well.  Last year when a tiny group of white supremacists clashed with violent Antifa members, Trump was severely criticized for denouncing violence “on both sides”.  We are now calling out Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and anyone else who considers themselves leaders on the Left.  It’s time to condemn the violent bigotry of Antifa and call on them to go home and consider joining only in the civil debate our political system is built on.

Need to Know 8/4/18

CNN has stepped up it’s nasty rhetoric towards American voters.  Jim Acosta, who was verbally assaulted by elderly Trump supporters at a rally, said things about those voters he would never say about Antifa crowds throwing urine and rocks at police officers.  David Gergen stated that if something happens to someone in the media the blood will be on Trump’s hands.  That’s interesting, I suppose he’s sort of admitting that Steve Scalise’s blood is on CNN’s hands.  It took until August 17, 2018 before a mainstream media outlet would actually call out Antifa as a violent group, even though they constantly physically confronted media members at their mob rallies.

Jim Acosta still crying about being insulted at a Trump rally

Speaking of media “whipping up violence”, the NYT’s new editorial board member Sarah Jeong had quite the opinion about cops.  In addition to calling for killing all men, Jeong also said equality and fairness would require homeless people to be able to murder cops with no repercussions.  In fact, Jeong didn’t just fantasize about violence against cops, but actually called for it on a couple occasions too.  I wonder if Jim Acosta has ever met Sarah Jeong?  I wonder if that would change his thoughts about how it’s conservative media ginning up violence because they occasionally use the phrase “fake news”?

Another liberal judge, DC District Court Judge John Bates, has ruled that Obama’s DACA executive order cannot be repealed.  While he granted the administration time to come up with alternatives, this sets a very dangerous precedent.  The idea that executive orders could be made the eternal law of the land through judicial fiat removes the constitutional form of government that the United States was built on.  People who are afraid of Trump being a tyrant or dictator should have more fear of the precedent set here.  What protects us from tyranny is laws being written in Congress.  If Congress doesn’t want to replace the DACA executive order with a real law, the courts cannot just step in and make the DACA executive order the irreversible law of the land.   Both sides of the aisle should be upset about this ruling.  Or at least anyone who opposes tyranny and supports our constitutional form of government.

Need to Know 7/31/18

Republican candidate Austin Petersen had his Twitter account suspended for 12 hours after thousands of antifa communist Democrats are triggered by a Stalin gif he posted.  No, this isn’t the Babylon Bee.  Petersen posted the gif in response to one pundit’s ridiculous assertion that Petersen had paid the Russians off to hack Claire McCaskill’s email account.  Petersen is in an uphill battle in the Republican primary to take on McCaskill for her tenuously held Senate seat in Missouri.  He has caused a splash with his AR-15 and 3D gun printer giveaways through the campaign.

Communists triggered by Stalin gif

Is North Korea building new ballistic missiles?  That’s the claim by Washington Post citing unnamed US spies who decided to share classified intelligence with the news agency on the condition of anonymity.  Of course, we’ve seen so much fake news coming from unnamed sources through WaPo and others that there really can’t be too much stock put in this.  It would absolutely benefit Democrats in November to blunt the progress Trump has made with North Korea.  And it seems like a very big risk for people in our spy agencies to tell the Washington Post something so sensitive.  So for now, we’ll stick with the official story.

WaPo publishes classified intel on North Korea, claims anonymous sources

There was no collusion, and even if there was it’s not a crime.  That’s the latest from Trump attorney Rudy Guiliani.  Guiliani made the claim Monday on Fox & Friends.  Depending on the facts and circumstances, he’s correct.  If Trump didn’t commission hackers to break into the DNC’s servers or somehow cause them to break the law, then any other sort of collusion is meaningless.  Even if Trump arranged and met with the Russian attorney in Trump Tower, which he didn’t, it still wouldn’t be a violation of the law.  In fact, compared to hiring a British spy get paid dirt from Russian operatives and then giving that phony info to the FBI to start an investigation, even the worst allegations against Trump are trivial.

Considering Trump has never been the target of a criminal investigation having to do with Russia and considering Hillary Clinton colluded more than even the most wild allegations against Trump, I think it’s time to stop beating this dead horse and move on.

Trump didn’t collude, and even if he had it wasn’t a crime

To Those Who Suddenly Care, Welcome

I feel like I should welcome all the people who are suddenly now concerned about violent protesters. When St Louis was burning and cops were being assassinated in their cars, people got upset if you said you support the police or that this went beyond free speech.

When Antifa, angry that Trump won, were smashing Starbucks windows and burning property in the streets, we were told this is all free speech and #resistance.

When protesters set Berkeley ablaze, Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders said he understood their anger, condemned their violence, and admonished the violent ones not to say they were Bernie Sanders supporters.

People cheered when an Antifa member punched Richard Spencer in the face. I’ll admit, I cheered.
People paused for a moment when an alt-leftist from Bernie Sanders campaign staff walked onto a softball field and started gunning down GOP congressmen. In fact for almost a whole 24 hour news cycle there was unity in the thought that a line had been crossed. At the same time, Antifa on social media cheered the attack on right-wingers who opposed the Socialist agenda.
As Antifa emailed threats of violence to Fascist rally organizers and got nationalist events canceled through threats of violence, many sat in silent approval because our violence is apparently better than their violence.
Now that the racist Fascists have drawn blood, people are starting to care. In fact, they care so much that if you even mention “both sides”, you are shouted down and lumped with the racists. Condemning all violence and promoting all free speech has become anathema to the crowds. It is as evil as suggesting all lives matter when a cop is shot dead in his patrol car.
The Socialists of the Antifa movement and the Fascists of the Nazi/KKK movement have one goal in mind. They seek power. One seeks it through populist appeals and promises to those they seek to control, the other through an overt demand that all others should bow to them. Both sides oppose liberty. Both sides only approve of their own free speech and believe the other should be limited.
The only way to truly diffuse this war that the vast majority of Americans want no part of is to embrace liberty. The demands of both the Nazis and the Socialist Antifa are incompatible with the constitution. Unfortunately, embracing liberty means giving up aspirations of controlling others through big government. Even non-radical Republicans and Democrats struggle with that concept.
If you are finally ready to denounce all violence and all attempts by partisan groups to gain power over our lives through big government, then welcome. If you are simply mad that their side killed someone on your side, then this article isn’t for you.
