Why Democrats should vote Libertarian

Dear Democrats,

Let’s talk about who you are voting for.  I’m not going to try to convince you to vote Republican.  Lower taxes, economic freedom, equal opportunity, national security and all that isn’t for everyone, and I get that.  Seriously though, we have many of the same goals.  Lowering healthcare costs without destroying our healthcare system, helping people rise up out of poverty, keeping the country safe, keeping our neighborhoods safe, an end to racism, proper management of government with cuts to wasteful spending, these are all goals of both Democrats and Republicans.  We just have different ways of getting there.

But the Democrat party isn’t run by moderate Democrats anymore.  You have not one, but four Democrat Senate candidates who have been caught on hidden camera telling people they are far more radical than they can publicly admit.  They said on these hidden videos that they are hiding their agenda to try to get moderate votes.  We have Beto O’Rourke in Texas who wants to import cheap labor illegally so that America’s poor don’t have to work.  Instead, he wants to give them universal guaranteed income.  It would basically turn our country into a slave/welfare state.

Andrew Gillum was on staff with a radical activist group YP4 that wanted to defund police and end prisons.  You may agree with portions of their manifesto, but I’d imagine you’d be a little uncomfortable with their stances on ending capitalism, opening borders, and their dedication to liberation theology which is an ideology of racial supremacy.  You might have liked Obama, but you probably wouldn’t sit and listen to a sermon by Jeremiah Wright.

And then there’s Ocasio-Cortez.  The question Democrats have to ask themselves is if they really support unfunded economic programs like universal income and universal healthcare if they are going to cost $3.2 trillion a year and require massive tax hikes on the poor just to be sustainable.

You’re still a liberal, but you’re not quite as radical as your party has become.  You also don’t like the rhetoric.  You hate Trump, you hate what he says, you aren’t particularly fond of his followers.  But you don’t think we should attack his supporters.  You don’t agree with Maxine Waters that you should show up at restaurants and chase people like Mitch McConnell and his wife out.  You aren’t into the radical hatred stuff so much, you really just don’t like Trump.  You don’t even really hate your friend who voted for Trump.  So some of the leftist rhetoric, like Hollywood actors calling for a bloody revolution if Democrats lose the election isn’t your cup of tea.  You really just want to return to that mythical time when the two parties acted with civility.

Here is why the Libertarian party is for you:

  1. They support legalization of recreational marijuana.  Like you, they don’t think the government should decide what you put in your body.
  2. They support prison reform.  Not “cops are white supremacists we need to shut down all prisons and let the inmates go wild” radical Democrat prison reform.  But real prison reform where people aren’t locked up for victimless crimes.
  3. They, like you, are most often pro-choice.  They aren’t going around talking about how they are so happy they had abortions and telling people to get their abortions while they still can.  They aren’t dressing up in vagina suits and throwing menstrual blood at cops because a 13 year old might have to tell the authorities when someone illegally gets her pregnant.  But they do consider abortion to be a private choice between a woman and her doctor.  I disagree, but hey I’m not a Democrat.
  4. They hate government corruption.  You hate government corruption.  And many of the candidates in your party are corrupt.  Senator Bob Menendez went to the Dominican Republic on a lobbyist’s dime to rape underage prostitutes.  Andrew Gillum accepted bribes from undercover FBI agents.  Libertarians haven’t been to DC yet, so they are still pure and innocent.  They can’t even get a lobbyist to buy them a cup of coffee.
  5. They are fiscally responsible.  Now you might not agree with their reductions in social programs, etc.  But take heart, chances are none of them will actually win, much less get enough power to actually do something like reform Social Security with higher performing private accounts.  So you can rest easy that the government will still hold that leash.  But you can personally vote with a clean conscience.

So if you want to vote against Republicans, but you’re no longer comfortable with the crazy that your party has become, consider voting for Libertarians.  Check out their platform.  I think you’ll see a lot of things you agree with, and not too many you don’t.  Their 2nd amendment views will make you antsy.  But more antsy than the idea that the government should ban most hunting and sport rifles, and then confiscate them?  Because that’s where the DNC is today.

Sincerely,

Your friends at Political Brief

Governor’s race tightens in Florida

It’s the economy, stupid.  Just kidding, that’s what it used to be.  Now it’s race and phony promises.  Gillum has turned around his political fortune by playing the race card and promising far more than he could ever deliver.  Even with a billion dollar tax hike, you have to wonder how he is going to give teachers raises when the economy crashes.  But none of that matters.  When Gillum destroys the economy, we must all sit and watch in horror with our hands over our mouths.  Any criticism would be racist, just like with Obama.

Fortunately, Floridians may be coming to their senses.  After a shock Rasmussen poll showed Gillum up by six points, the most recent poll out from Florida Atlantic University shows it as a 2 point race.  Rasmussen tends to lean right, giving Trump 50% approval ratings throughout 2018.  But the new poll tracks more closely with Quinnipiac’s 3 point lead for Gillum.  Quinnipiac tends to lean left.  That means the Florida governor’s race is still a toss up.  So perhaps we can have slight restoration of faith in the sanity of Florida voters.

New poll shows 2 point race in Florida

Judiciary committee chair Chuck Grassley has set a deadline of Friday morning for Christine Blasey Ford to decide whether or not to testify about the allegation letter Democrats have sat on since July.  Ford has flipped back and forth on whether she will actually show up.  Her lawyers have demanded an FBI investigation, even though it’s not a Federal issue, there is no evidence to investigate, and the FBI has already reviewed the information and declined.  Perhaps her lawyers aren’t very well versed in how things work.

I suppose Republicans should pat themselves on the back for entertaining this absurd sideshow.  In today’s cultural environment it is really necessary.  But the whole episode is unfortunate.  By turning Ford’s accusation into a circus event and using it as a delay strategy, Democrats have cheapened and discredited women who have been attacked and should be believed.  This, like Gillum playing the race card, harms real victims.  It also harms the country.  Rather than being able to come together in unity and say “racism is bad” or “women deserve to be heard and believed”, reasonable people must pause and ask “was it really racism?  Or was it a common phrase used in a context having nothing to do with race that a Democrat got offended at for political purposes”.  “Is she telling the truth?  Or is she an operative making non-falsifiable claims as a ploy to harm someone else for political reasons?”

It’s not fair that reasonable people should even have to ask.  Democrats have a credibility gap and an honor deficiency that has been made apparent by the Kavanaugh hearings.  They need to fix this.  Not for their own sake, but for the sake of real victims who they have turned into political football to score cheap points.

Ford has until Friday to decide if she will testify

Speaking of credible accusers, the former girlfriend of Democrat Representative Keith Ellison just released medical records detailing the physical abuse she experienced at his hand.  We’ve gone on about Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and other Democrat heroes who raped and murdered women.  But Democrats typically yawn and go on about how that is ancient history.  The Ellison abuse scandal is not ancient history.  It’s now.  He beat his girlfriend as recently as 2017.

Shouldn’t Ellison step down?  Shouldn’t the media care about this?  The media cycle is filled with a 35 year old accusation against Kavanaugh with no witnesses, no location, no date, no physical evidence, and plenty of political intrigue.  Is there simply no room left to talk about a real, current case of domestic abuse?  Certainly it couldn’t be that the media doesn’t care because of Ellison’s party affiliation.  If that were the case, it would validate Republican complaints that the media is severely biased.

Borking failed, Dems try Anita Hill II

Democrats have failed again to stop Kavanaugh.  This time, it was pretty spectacular.  Diane Feinstein came out with a letter yesterday that apparently she had been hiding since summer.  The letter, written anonymously by someone who allegedly begged not to have her identity revealed (i.e. fakenews) supposedly accused Kavanaugh of some sort of sexual crime in high school.  Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Prep, which is an all boys high school.

When Feinstein had no luck getting the phony letter introduced to the judiciary committee as evidence, she went the Bruce Ohr/Peter Strzok route and forwarded it to the FBI to be investigated.  Of course, no investigation is planned.  Feinstein has earned her own clown nose in the Kavanaugh hearings, along with Corey “Spartacus” Booker, and Kamala Harris with her “have you ever talked to anyone about anything” line of questioning.  And here I was hoping Feinstein was trying to be the reasonable and sane voice of the left in the Judiciary Committee.

Socialists boycotting Jews?  Apparently there is nothing new under the sun.  Florida Socialist and Democrat candidate for governor Andrew Gillum has aligned himself with anti-Semitic groups who have called for boycotting Israel.  Gillum has happily accepted endorsements from racist groups like Dream Defenders who are part of the BDS movement to harm Jewish people economically through boycotts.  This isn’t the first time this approach has been tried in history.

Despite tax cuts, tax revenues continue to increase at record rates.  The government has collected over $1.5 trillion through August.  This beat out the previous record set last year.  While the deficit continues to run high and Congress continues to avoid spending cuts, it shows that tax cuts do increase revenues when it results in economic recovery.  This has been proven now several times.  If Congress could get their act together and cut spending (rather than double it along with taxes), we could have a balanced budget some day.

Tax cuts work, booming economy increases revenues

Mueller acted before Labor Day, but no one cared

It didn’t make headlines, but apparently Mueller did make a move before Labor Day.  Many media outlets waited breathlessly for something like an indictment of one of Trump’s sons, or a report calling for action on Trump himself.  Instead, the Special Counsel’s office sent a letter to Trump’s attorneys with requests for written responses regarding Russia and the election.  According to the unnamed sources, the questions steered away from obstruction.  This is the best case scenario for Trump since written answers will help him avoid the “perjury trap” that his attorneys had feared.  Trump shoots from the hip when he shoots his mouth off and is notorious for conflicting and changing statements.  Written answers will allow him and his lawyers to get their story straight and on the record.

Massachusetts is on track to make history.  For their state, that is.  The extreme liberal state will likely have their first African American Congresswoman after Ayanna Pressley beat out incumbent Michael Capuano in the Tuesday primary.  Pressley and Capuano saw eye to eye on many things, but Pressley was definitely more anti-cop.  She also is a Democratic Socialist, calling for Medicare for all and the 100% tax hike that goes with it, and the abolition of ICE.  Although, it’s not clear if she actually means that or like Ocasio-Cortez thinks abolition of ICE just means stopping the agents from raping women and razing villages in a manner like Ghengis Khan.  I think I might be mixing up quotes there.

Capuano responded to the loss saying “America is going to be OK”.  I suppose we will be, as long as we can keep Pressley’s anti-cop, open borders, extreme tax hikes and Medicare for all policies from becoming mainstream.  Although we do need to congratulate the extremely liberal northern state of Massachusetts for finally joining Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Alabama and some of the other backwards redneck states in finally electing an African American woman to Congress.  You’re a little late in the game, but I guess better late than never.

Another Democratic Socialist upsets long-time Democrat politician

The Florida race for governor is too close to call according to a new Quinnipiac poll.  Quinnipiac, which typically leans a couple points to the left, has the race at 50-47 with Andrew Gillum in the lead.  Gillum played the race card on Ron DeSantis within 24 hours of his primary victory, and he has struggled with questions of how to pay for his socialist agenda.  Gillum has also called for a “confederacy of states” to pass Medicare for all, and admitted that he intends to make Florida the highest tax state in the south.  Gillum has also called for relaxed borders and the abolition of ICE, whatever that means.

DeSantis is running on conservative libertarian values and has promised to continue the success of Governor Scott in Florida.  The Cato institute has ranked Florida as the #1 state when it comes to freedom.  The state also has a below average unemployment rate and has continued to see sustained economic growth since Scott was elected.  DeSantis made this point when he asked why Florida would want to harm it’s great economy with socialism.  Unfortunately, leftists only heard the word “monkey” in his phrase “monkey it up”.  Leftists and some in the media ignored the entire comment and assumed DeSantis was secretly calling Gillum a monkey to elicit support from white supremacists.

Sorry, it’s so ridiculous I had a hard time even writing that.  I guess Harry Reid was right.  Democrats will say whatever it takes to win elections as long as it furthers their agenda.

Gillum, DeSantis in dead heat

Read my lips: I was against taxes before I was for them

In what will go down in history as one of the fastest reversals of position, Andrew Gillum said on Sunday that he won’t raise taxes to pay for Medicare for all.  After several deflections, he softened his stance to say he won’t raise taxes on “every day working” people.  I’m not sure how that works, since it’s hard to raise taxes on people who don’t work.  But finally, Gillum admitted he actually will raise taxes.  In fact, what Gillum has revealed of his tax plan makes Florida the most expensive state in the south to do business.  But there’s one problem: his plan has already spent the corporate tax rate hike on education.

According to Gillum’s website, the 40% tax hike on Florida businesses will be used to pay for his “fair share” education program.  So how is he going to pay for Medicare for all?  Gillum can honestly say he won’t raise taxes because he supports the Federal Government footing the bill, and taking over healthcare.  Gillum knows this will require a 100% tax hike on “every day working” people, and he knows that Florida can’t possibly afford it on their own.  But since he’s running for governor, he is refusing to answer the question.  Once we realize this and remove federal healthcare overhauls from his campaign website, he’s left with little more than rampant tax increases, sanctuary state status, gun control, and the rest of the Democratic Socialist agenda.  Gillum doesn’t have a healthcare solution.  That’s why he can’t answer the question.

Beto O’Rourke in Texas is starting to look less and less like a golden boy.  New details are out about his 20 year old drunk driving crash.  O’Rourke apparently tried to flee the scene and then lied about how much he had consumed.  Of course, fleeing a drunk driving accident is sort of a staple of the great Democrat senators of history.  At least he didn’t leave someone in the car to die.

O’Rourke also supports a single payer healthcare system and has made that central to his campaign.  But like his fellow Democratic Socialists, O’Rourke hasn’t quite articulated how he would pay the $3.2 trillion annual bill.  In fact, his website is more platitude than plan.  If people wanted unicorns, I’m sure free unicorns would be in his platform.  At some point someone will need to ask him how he’s going to pay for it all.  That one question seems to be the Achilles heel of the Democratic Socialist movement.

Beto O’Rourke bets on healthcare

The family of Aretha Franklin made a statement that the eulogy given at her funeral by Rev. Jasper Williams, Jr was offensive.  Williams didn’t really talk about Aretha, but instead spent the entire eulogy talking politics.  At one point he made a statement that black lives don’t matter as long as blacks are killing each other.  The statement was met with shock and calls of “black lives do matter” from the crowd.  The funeral was attended by controversial figures as well, including Fascist minister Louis Farrakhan.  At points in the funeral it turned into a Trump roast.

What if Mueller doesn’t have another shoe

All summer Mueller has remained relatively quiet when it comes to Trump and his inner circle.  While the media speculates about the worst case scenarios, what has actually materialized is a couple small time process crimes, a couple corrupt businessmen who made bad deals a decade ago, about a dozen Russian hackers, and a guy who was bled dry and threatened until he plead guilty to a crime he didn’t commit.

It seems like every other week there is a story about how someone else is definitely flipping on Trump.  In fact, there has been so much fake news about this investigation, it’s easy to ignore the headlines.  Meanwhile, there has been very little reporting about the ongoing inspector general investigation into the handling of the Clinton email case.  You might have even forgotten that was still going on.

Now the media is suggesting Mueller may not even subpoena Trump if he refuses an interview.  They are basically admitting that Mueller doesn’t may not actually have any compelling reason to interview Trump.  There was speculation the investigation would end this week with a big move by Mueller.  I have to hand it to him.  Either he’s done a great job of not giving anything away, or the media has gone so insane over this story and it’s just now becoming apparent to them how much was simply made up.

Mueller may not get his Trump interview

2018 is becoming less of a referendum on Trump and more on Socialism.  With the successes of Beto O’Rourke in Texas, Andrew Gillum in Florida, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York, the Democrat party has taken that dreaded turn towards the extreme radical left of their party.  Many within the DNC had complained about Ocasio-Cortez’s rise and subsequent flubs, and some openly cheered when Democratic Socialists lost a string of primaries.  But now Beto and Gillum are giving the movement a little more credibility, despite the fact that one has a spotted past and the other is under an FBI investigation.

Meanwhile, in Sweden the Socialist Democrats are experiencing extremely low popularity.  Part of that has to do with the government’s failure to keep up with their welfare promises.  Patients are waiting years for vital medical care.  The welfare state is being especially harmed by the large influx of immigrants who have not been able to incorporate into Swedish society.  Socialism is failing them.

Swedes enjoy world-class healthcare, when they can get it

Trump hasn’t done a great job of qualifying his statements every time and consistently.  For example, when Trump said that the Press was the enemy of the people, he also tweeted that he mean fake news was the enemy of the people and that he would take fake news over censorship.  But the media, as though they are happy to prove his point, has continued to zero in on his “enemy of the people” comment.

But while Trump is openly critical of the press, he hasn’t been the enemy of the press that Obama was.  If anything, Trump has been a far more open target of the media and hasn’t really backed down from the challenge.  Rather than closing off lines of communication, Trump has held a one sided press conference with the entire country every night from about midnight to 4am.  In fact, Trump may go down as the President who communicated the most directly with the American people.  His digital fireside chat happens just about every night and has made millionaires over at CNN and MSNBC.

Socialist Andrew Gillum calls for confederacy to pass Universal Healthcare

In a rocky race so far for Florida Governor, Democrat candidate Andrew Gillum suggested to CNN’s Chris Cuomo that we needed a “confederacy of states” in order to get Universal Healthcare.  Gillum’s confederacy would ironically be a southern confederacy. Gillum also charged DeSantis with using a “bullhorn” which is a common racist dog whistle for Gillum’s base, bringing up connotations of ignorant segregationists. See? Two can play at that game.

But Gillum’s point about a southern confederacy is even more ridiculous than the gaffe itself.  Gillum’s point was actually valid.  If Florida doubled their state taxes in order to pay for government controlled healthcare, the state would empty out.  People would move to surrounding states to get away from his Universal Healthcare boondoggle.  Universal Healthcare requires shared misery to work.  That’s why Obamacare had a mandate.  Gillum realizes he can’t destroy Florida’s healthcare system unless their neighbors join him so people have nowhere to go.

Sounds like a winner.

Trump is expected to announce a new type of retirement plan in a rally in North Carolina.  The pooled 401k would allow small businesses to pool their resources and put together retirement plans while sharing the cost.  Trump also took action to reduce government spending by cancelling raises for Federal workers.  At the same time, he scored a major victory with the NAFTA redo with Mexico.  Canada has until today to decide if they are going to join.

Administration moves towards allowing pooled retirement plans

Many are speculating Mueller will make moves today.  Mueller has until September 6th to take any major action before we get into the election season.  Media outlets have recklessly speculated, without evidence, that Mueller will indict Don Jr and Jared Kushner, that he will subpoena Trump to testify, or that he will grant Michael Cohen a cooperation plea deal to get dirt on Trump.  So far, it’s been eerily quiet.

Currently no one is speculating that Mueller will step up efforts against Bruce Ohr, Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe, Hillary Clinton, James Comey, or any of the other co-conspirators who solicited dirt from foreign agents to set up the Russian investigation in the first place.

Mueller could move today

Democrats stunned in Florida upset

The primaries took a turn for the worst for the establishment DNC on Tuesday when front runner Gwen Graham lost to progressive socialist Andrew Gillum in Florida.  The Florida governor primary race results came as a shock.  Gillum, the 39 year old mayor of Tallahassee, was outspent and barely known until Bernie Sanders came down to campaign for him.  Gillum is from the Ocasio-Cortez wing of the Democrat party and is also currently under an FBI investigation for illegal real estate deals.  He is promising a $15 minimum wage and Medicare for all, despite the massive job losses caused by such a drastically high wage floor in other states and no way to pay for Universal Healthcare.

On the Republican side of the aisle, Ron DeSantis won easily after a Trump endorsement gave him statewide notoriety.  He was already a very popular congressman in the Northeast part of the state.  DeSantis is also a member of the House “Freedom Caucus” made up of more libertarian leaning Republicans.  This sets up a stark contrast for November.

History will play on both sides of the race.  Gillum would be the first black governor of Florida if elected.  On the other side, Florida continues to do incredibly well under Republican governors.  Economic growth in Florida has skyrocketed under outgoing Governor Rick Scott.  Gillum meanwhile presides over a city known for high crime and falling behind other Florida cities.  In the end though, the race may simply turn into a Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump cult of personality referendum.

Establishment Democrats lose Florida primary to Ocasio-Cortez style 39 year old mayor

Narrative alert: for the second day in a row the mainstream media hit Trump for making a claim “without citing evidence”.  The first was Trump’s claim that Google searches for his name were directing people to left leaning news organizations.  Trump did not cite the article in his tweet, but was referring to a PJ Media report.

Yesterday the Daily Caller reported that China had hacked Hillary’s email account and set up code that was sending a courtesy duplicate of every email she sent to a Chinese run company in DC.  The Daily Caller did not name their sources, but after the CNN/Lanny Davis screwup, the MSM can hardly complain about that.

Trump isn’t citing stories without evidence.  He simply isn’t linking to the articles he is reading.  Mainstream media outlets likely don’t read news that conflicts with their narrative, and that may be why they missed these two stories.  I wonder where the “without evidence” narrative disappeared to when Florida’s Bill Nelson claimed the Russians had hacked our voting machines?

The “without evidence” narrative is back in the Mainstream Media

White House counsel Don McGhan may be moving on.  That’s the rumors coming from left-leaning Axios.  But the tone of the headline doesn’t match the story.  This isn’t the first time that’s been the case with a McGhan story either.  After McGhan spent 30 hours with Mueller representing the President, media outlets speculated that he had flipped on Trump.  That turned out not to be true.  The new rumors also do not indicate a split between Trump and McGhan.  In fact, the story demonstrates the value he has shown to the administration and why he may be moving on.  McGhan could be replaced by Emmet Flood.  Flood has represented Clinton and Bush against Congressional investigations and is known for fighting against investigator overreach.

Don McGhan’s work may be done
